Betty Mecum

McFarland - Our beloved Betty Mecum passed away on Friday, April 26, 2013 after a short but very brave battle with pancreatic cancer. She was 89 years young, and kept her keen memory and sense of humor until the very end. Betty was born in Madison on January 20, 1924, to Martin and Josephine (Pechota) Clemage. She grew up on State Street and attended Central High School. After being intensely pursued by a younger man from a rival high school, she and Bob married on June 17, 1945. They worked hard, raising three children and starting a family business, which they ran for over 25 years. Early in their marriage, Betty worked as a skilled seamstress, and in more recent years, she crocheted many beautiful pieces for family and friends. Betty enjoyed being involved at her church and in the McFarland Lioness Club.

She is survived by Bob, her husband of almost 69 years, her children Rob (Roberta), Dawn (Bill) Braman, and Tom (Laurie), and grandsons Kyle, Adrian (Carly), and Patrick.
She is also survived by her great-granddaughters, Allison and Christa, and great-grandson, Charlie, and her brother-in-law, Frank Holliday.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters Marion (Bob) Orwin and Virginia Holliday, and her brother, Richard, in childhood.

Our special thanks to Bob, Rob, and Roberta for taking such good care of Betty in her final weeks, and to her wonderful church friends for their many years of friendship, love, and support. We also would like to thank her Hospice nurses, who offered their skill and care over the past few weeks and especially on the day of her passing.

A memorial Mass and celebration of Betty's life will be on Thursday, May 9, 2013 at 11 am at Christ the King Catholic Church in McFarland. Friends may greet the family from 10 am until the time of the Mass. Memorials may be made to the family or the McFarland Lioness Club.

Until we meet again, you'll live on in our hearts as we remember the love and laughs you shared with us! Rest in eternal peace and joy. We love you, Betty!
