Betty J. Anderson, age 84, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at Agrace HospiceCare on February 20, 2014. She was born May 14, 1929, the daughter to Alvin and Ida (Hanke) Voight.
Betty was united in marriage to Charles Anderson on November 29, 1948 in Madison. Betty and Charles raised six children before Betty worked for Sherring Corporation as a lab technician. Betty was a loving mother, grandmother, great- grandmother and great-great grandmother. She loved spending time with her family and always had pets. Betty's love of animals started as a young girl growing up on the family's farm in Lake Mills. She would follow the farm cats in order to locate their kittens, kidnap them from the mother cat, place them in a baby buggy and push them around the farm yard. She reminded her big sisters of Shirley Temple. While raising her own family there was a never ending procession of family pets, along with many litters of puppies and kittens. Her dog Rudy and parrot Dudley provided companionship and protection enabling her to live at home up to the end of her life. Her favorite pastimes were fishing and gardening. Her children and grandchildren enjoy sharing happy memories of days spent with her at her favorite fishing hole. When she wasn't fishing she was tending to her vegetable garden and numerous flower beds. She took pride in showing off her bountiful blooms to everyone who dropped in. At harvest time she enjoyed canning the vegetables from her garden and stocking her pantry, from which she made huge pots of chili and homemade soups. She was a fabulous cook. She made Sundays at home very special with her famous fried chicken dinners and singing along to the national anthem before football games. During her later years, she enjoyed crafts, bingo and socializing with her many friends and the staff at Catholic Charities Adult Day Center.
She is survived by children Faye Ann (Wayne) Hammen, Charles W. ( Vicki) Anderson III, Marilyn Simpson, Sandra( John) Follett, Christy( Tom Franks) Anderson, Timothy ( Curley) Anderson; 11 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.; sisters Francis Kaus, Pearl Renz and brother Robert Voight
