Bethyl Holmes

Sun Prairie- Bethyl L. Holmes, age 83 went to be with the Lord suddenly on Sunday, October 19, 2014. She was born on February 7, 1931, in Watersmeet, Michigan, the daughter of Seldon and Gladys (Bartholomew) Salisbury. Bethyl was united in marriage to Albert Edwin Holmes Sr. in the town she grew up in Watersmeet, Michigan in 1949.
In her spare time she, greatly enjoyed reading, traveling, and fishing in Alaska. Her children often remember the wonderful smells that came from her homemade bread and coffee cakes. She always had a fresh coffee cake for the locals in the morning, in case they would happen to stop by. Bethyl had a gift and thoroughly enjoyed teaching children about the word of our God. Even with a home full of eight children, Bethyl and Albert always welcomed visiting missionaries into their home, for dinner and a place to sleep.
Bethyl was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her and the lives she touched.
She is survived by her eight children; Jean Holmes, Jane Holmes, Mary (Jerry) Roehm, Albert (Betty) Holmes Jr., Nancy Holmes, Barbara Holmes, Patti Holmes, and Keith (Nadine) Holmes, 14 grandchildren; Kenneth (Stacy) Antilla, Tammy (Matthew) Lowe, Thomas Roehm, Teri (Frank) Saenz, Bethyl Kirksey, Schriee Singleton, Albert Holmes III, Jeffery (Christa) Olson, Jennifer (Bill) Woehrle, Tara Kasten, Rina (Greg) Robinson, Jackie (Ted) Renkor, Matthew Holmes, Brett Holmes, 24 great-grandchildren and 2 brothers; Frank (Linda) Salisbury, Robert (Nancy) Salisbury
She was preceded in death by her husband in March of 1997, as well as her parents, and three sisters.
A celebration of life service will be held at EAST MADISON BAPTIST CHURCH, 4917 Milwaukee St., Madison on Saturday, October 25, 2014 at 4:00 pm with Pastor Hoyt Lovelace officiating. Burial will take place at a later date.
