DEERFIELD - Bert Riege, 87, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 23, 2014. He was born on the family farm in Sun Prairie Township July 14, 1927 to Paul & Hulda (Hahn) Riege. On November 29, 1952 Bert married Margery Albrecht, the love of his life, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Waterloo. They spent nearly 62 years together, raising a family and farming. In 1959 Bert & Margery, with their young boys, moved to their new farm in Deerfield where they live at the present time. Bert and Margery worked the family farm with sons Bob & Dan and the family farm continues to be worked to this day with Bob and grandsons Ryan & Seth.
Bert loved his family, his animals, the land, telling stories and making everyone laugh. He also enjoyed the company of many friends, neighbors and relatives. Bert enjoyed many things, but he loved nothing more than his family and the memories his loved ones gave him.
He is survived by his wife Margery, sons Bob (Kim) and Dan (Sandy), grandchildren Ryan (Hillary), Seth (Courtney) and Lane, Jessie (Luke), Mike and Alli (Kevin) and his great-grandchildren Carson, Brody and his little doll Kalli. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Albert & Frederick and sisters Gertrude Knapton and twin sister Bertha Homburg.
A Celebration of Life Service, officiated by Pastor Arthur Faught, will be held on Tuesday October 28, 2014 at 12 Noon, at St Paul Ev. Lutheran Church in Marshall, WI where Bert was a life-long member. Friends and family may call from 11 am until time of service. A visitation will be held at Olson-Cress Funeral Home, 201 Bue St., Deerfield on Monday October 27th from 5 - 7 pm. Interment to follow the service at Kroghville Cemetery, Waterloo, WI.
