Spahn, Bertha Laura (Maier)

Waunakee: Bertha Laura (Maier) Spahn, age 95, died on Wednesday October 7th at her daughter's home with her family by her side. She was born in Cross Plains WI on November 10, 1919 to Wolfgang and Margaret (Wipperfurth) Maier. She was united in Marriage to Melvin Spahn on June 9, 1951 and they farmed in Ashton for many years.
She was a member of St. Peters in Ashton and a long time member of
St. John the Baptist Church in Waunakee. She was an avid card player (Solo was her favorite), she loved to quilt, her love of gardening produced many flowers and vegetables which she canned for her family, in later years she was a knitter of many mittens which she would donate to charities.
Survivors include her daughters Connie (Merle) Ballweg, Kristine (Barry) Beyer,
Katharine Spahn, Cynthia (Paul) Bodendein, Anita Spahn (Jan Hintzke). 11 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Surviving Siblings Mary (Joe) Barman and Doctor Lenora Maier.
In addition to her parents and husband she was preceeded in death by her siblings, Susan (Alois) Schrenk, Herman (Rosanna) Maier, Al Maier, Bernard (Eleanor) Maier, Joseph (Ruth) Maier,Frances (Richard) Dyer.
A Mass of Christian burial was held on Saturday October 10th at St. John the Baptist Church in Waunakee. The family would to thank Agrace Hospice for their loving care and support.
