Bernice Ella Sherman, age 94 of Sun Prairie, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday, September 28, 2016. Bernice was the daughter of George and Esther (Gherke) Yohn. She was born at home in Columbia County and delivered by her father on July 7, 1922. On February 26, 1949, she was united in marriage to John C. Sherman at the Zion Lutheran parsonage. Together they raised two children.

Bernice attended school through the 8th grade. She and her twin sister, Beatrice, would stay with a relative during the week in Columbus, going to school and also cleaning for people. They would then return back home for the weekends. Bernice then started working at Borden's, which is where she and John met. After she was married, she took on the role of wife and mother to her family. Bernice enjoyed gardening, canning, sewing and crafts. She kept her mind sharp by working on word search puzzles and Bingo. Bernice treasured her family and she loved being a great grandma to her two great grand babies Reese and Hunter. She will always be remembered by her family and friends by living life to the fullest and always having a smile on her face every day.

Bernice is survived by her son Robert Sherman; her daughter Donna ( Larry) Weisensel; her grandson Nick ( Joanne) Weisensel and their daughter Reese; her grandson Chad ( Kristina) Weisensel and their son Hunter; her brother George Yohn; her brother in laws Henry Sherman and Kenneth ( Holly) Sherman and her many nieces and nephews. Bernice was preceded in death by her husband John, her twin sister Beatrice Weidemann; her sister Dorothy Peterson; her brothers Charles and Arnold Yohn.

Funeral services for Bernice will be held at BRISTOL LUTHERAN CHURCH, 6835 Co. Hwy. N, Sun Prairie, at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 3, 2016, with Pastor Rick Reiten officiating. Visitation will be held at CRESS FUNERAL HOME, 1310 Emerald Terrace, Sun Prairie, from 1:00 until 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 2, 2016, as well as from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church on Monday.
Memorials may be made to Bristol Lutheran Church or Hyland Park.

The family would like to give special thanks to the staff and all her friends at Hyland Park, Pastor Rick and Dr. Paul Schmidt for their compassion and care given to their mom.
