MADISON - Bernice "Bernie" Marie Huot, age 87, of Madison, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 22, 2016, at Brookdale Madison West.
Bernice, daughter of Reinhardt and Tracy Hildebrandt, was born on November 13, 1928, in Lake Nebagamon, WI. She graduated from Superior High School. While growing up on her parents' dairy farm, she met Charles "Gene" E. Huot Jr., whose family had a cottage on Lake Nebagamon. After his service in the Korean War they were united in marriage on Veterans Day, November 11, 1950.
They eventually found their way to Madison, where Charles got a job working at Gisholt Machine Company. After the birth of their two daughters they bought their first home on Admiral Drive, Monona. When the girls were raised and gone, Bernie worked at First Class Mailers, Madison and retired from there after a number of years. During this time they also upgraded to a second home on Loretta Court, Madison. Bernie never lost the love of her home town spending many summers at the Lake Nebagamon cabin. When she was not tending to household activities, you could find her reading a good romance novel, working on a crossword puzzle, challenging herself at a game of solitaire, or working on one of her over 2,000 piece puzzles. Bernie had great passion for the Packers, Brewers and Badgers. She enjoyed their Harley Davidson motorcycle trips, shopping with her daughters until they dropped, and taking her chances at the slots. She was a lucky lady! She loved anything to do with gardening, plants or flowers, craft shows and farmers markets, and especially having her favorite drink, a southern comfort old fashioned sweet with lots of cherries and cinnamon on the rim.
On August 8, 2014, Bernie suffered a severe stroke which prevented her from returning to her normal activities. The family would like to thank the facilities who cared for Bernie in her time of need: St. Mary's Rehab Center, Oakwood East, Brookdale Madison West, Agrace Hospice Care, and the special ladies from Senior Helpers.
Survivors include her husband, Charles E. Huot Jr. of Madison; children: Donna (Greg) Parsons of Westport, WA, and Debbie (Jerry) Swain of Middleton; grandchildren: Kari (Keb) Guralski of Lake Tomahawk, and Lindsay Swain of Middleton; great-grandchildren: Josephine and August Guralski. She was preceded in death by her parents Reinhardt and Tracy Hildebrandt; sister Esther Arnold; and brothers Clifford, Lewis, Arnold, Donald, Robert, Gordon and William Hildebrandt.
