Madison -- Bernadine (Hardy) Jaeckle, age 92, of Madison, peacefully left this world on October 2, 2010 at the HospiceCare Center in Fitchburg. Hardy was born on May 7, 1918 in Milwaukee, the daughter of Hermine and Bernhard Wallner. After graduation from high school she worked at the Electric Company in Milwaukee. She married her lifelong partner of 69 years, Harvey Jaeckle, on August 9, 1941. They lived in the Milwaukee area until May of 1958 when she and her husband Harvey moved to Madison and started their business, Jaeckle Wholesale Inc. She worked in the business until her retirement in 1988. She was active in Eastern Star and Daughters of the Nile and did volunteer work through those organizations. She and Harvey spent winter months at their second home in Green Valley, Arizona until Harvey was no longer able to travel and they then moved to Attic Angels apartments in 2006. In her youth, Hardy was a gifted athlete, playing many sports including basketball, softball and tennis. She passed along her love of sports to her two sons and to her many grandchildren, as well. In her retirement she enjoyed playing golf, bowling, playing bridge with her many friends and Sheepshead with her family. She is survived by her husband, Harvey; her two sons, Fred (Mert) Jaeckle and Ned (Sarah) Jaeckle; six grandsons, Jeffery, Torrey (Stephanie), Matthew, Daniel, Louis, and Henry Jaeckle; five great grandchildren, Owen, Elizabeth, Alex, Stella, and Isabelle Jaeckle. She was preceded in death by her parents; and two sisters, Ruth Herrmann and Edna Alderfer. A Funeral Service will be held at 12 noon on Tuesday, October 5, 2010 at CRESS FUNERAL HOME, 3610 Speedway Road, Madison. A visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until time of service on Tuesday. Memorials may be made to Attic Angels Association or HospiceCare Foundation.
