Benedetta Mickelson

FITCHBURG- Benedetta "Bennie" Marino Mickelson, age 85, passed away on Thursday, March 13, 2014 surrounded by her family in Monona. She was born on November 16, 1928 in San Giuseppe Jato, Sicily. She married Sam Marino on September 27, 1951 in Sicily, who passed away in 1998. She later married David Mickelson on August 20, 2005 in Madison.

Bennie was an accomplished seamstress who worked for Carmen's, McNeil & Moore, Alice's Bridal Shop and Vera's House of Bridal. She was an excellent baker and was especially known for making spaghetti, bread and pizza, which will be missed by her entire family. She also loved dancing and visiting with friends.

She is survived by her husband, David; Sons, George (Jodi), Anthony (Aleda) and Peter (Kathy); grandchildren, Matthew, Sarah and Rachel Marino; brother, Joseph (Mima) Grimaudo of Sicily; Sister-in-Law, Phyllis (Ferdinand) Wesolowski of Waukesha; Brother-in-Law, Maurice Jury of Madison and nieces and nephews in America and Sicily.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Sam; son, Paul; her parents and two sisters.

A Mass of CHRISTIAN BURIAL will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 17, 2014, at GOOD SHEPHERD CATHOLIC PARISH AT ST. JOSEPH CHURCH, 1905 West Beltline Highway, Madison, with Msgr. Tom Baxter presiding. A visitation will be held at church on Monday at 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in memory of Benedetta to Alzheimer's & Dementia Alliance, 517 North Segoe Rd, Suite 301, Madison, WI 53705; or to Agrace HospiceCare, 5395 East Cheryl Parkway, Fitchburg, WI 53711. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the caregivers at Heritage Monona Memory Care and the nurses and volunteers from Agrace HospiceCare and O'Connell's Pharmacy.
