Beatrice Mellum

Mellum "Betty" Beatrice, age 83, of Waunakee passed away on Wed., July 30, 2014 following complications with pneumonia. Betty was born on May 24, 1931 in Muscoda, WI to Joseph F. and Helen M. (Pospichal) Sobek. She married Gordon F. Waddell in Madison on Sept 10, 1951. They made their home and raised their family in Fitchburg. Gordon preceded her in death on Dec. 3, 1995. On July 23, 1999, Betty married Leroy Mellum in Madison. They resided in Waunakee. She worked for the Dane County Highway Dept. for many years. Betty was a very special person, caring for Gordon during his illness, and for her mother, Helen, after Gordon passed away. She was a member of Otter Creek Lutheran Church, in rural Highland, WI and an associate member of Lakeview Lutheran Church in Madison. She left to grieve, her husband Leroy Mellum; sons, Bruce (Lora)Waddell of Cottage Grove, Brett Waddell of Illinois, a daughter Susan (Peter) Halsey of Verona; grandchildren Maren & Alicia Waddell of Cottage Grove, Sophie and Zach Waddell of Verona, a brother Robert (Mary Anne) Sobek of Madison, sisters Joyce Smith of Cottage Grove, Helen Pubanz, Donna (Robert) Benfield of Waukesha and Mary(John) Cahoon of Watertown. She is further survived by many sister and brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews and friends. Betty was preceded in death by a sister Ann Kavinsky and two brothers-in-law Robert Smith and Wayne Pubanz.

Funeral services will be held on Wed. Aug. 6, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Lakeview Lutheran Church 4001 Mandrake Rd, Madison. Friends may call on Tues Aug. 5, 2014 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Winn-Cress Funeral Home 5785 Hwy Q Waunakee. Friends may also call at the church on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services. Burial will take place at 3:00 p.m. at St Andrews cemetery in Verona.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations will be divided between both churches by the family.
