Barry L. Bartlett

SUN PRAIRIE- Barry Bartlett, 75, passed away on July 29th, 2023 at Agrace Hospice after a short illness. He was born on August 1, 1947 in Murphysboro, IL to John and Gloria Bartlett.  He moved to Lexington, KY in 1964, where he graduated from Lafayette High School. After high school, Barry graduated from the local technical college with a degree in telecommunications.  He proudly served in the United States Army 1st Air Cavalry during the Vietnam conflict.  Barry was an excellent marksman and was awarded the Bronze Medal for his bravery in combat. 

Upon returning from Vietnam, he married the love of his life, Diane Shirley, on February 14, 1969 in Lexington.  Barry and Diane settled in Sun Prairie in 1970.  Barry was a construction manager for General Telephone for 30 years. Once he retired from the telephone company, Barry hit the road as an over the road truck driver.  He proudly served his community by volunteering as an EMT from 1980-1995. Every Sunday night he would work on the ambulance service at the midget auto races in Sun Prairie. 

Barry was also a member of the Jaycees.  Barry dedicated a lot of his time to his faith in Jesus Christ.  Barry enjoyed ministering to the youth and went on mission trips to Vietnam to spread the word of his savior, Jesus Christ. 

Barry enjoyed spending time with his family, traveling, watching auto racing, and cooking.  He would happily tell you where the best place to eat any where he had traveled.

Barry is survived by his wife, Diane; his children, Lori Peters, Barry (Darcy) Bartlett II, and Jill (Ryan) Bollig; and his grandchildren Cora, Megan, Hayden, Grant, and Evan. Barry was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be from 11-12:00 (noon) on Tuesday, August 8, 2023 at Cress Funeral Service, 1310 Emerald Terrace, Sun Prairie, WI 53590 with a memorial service to follow at 12:00 PM. 

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Agrace Hospice. The family would like to thank the staff at Agrace for their compassion and care.
