Madison - Barnes A. "Barney" Clark, age 79, passed away peacefully Monday, April 14th, 2014. He was born in Appleton, Wisconsin on January 5th, 1935. He graduated from Appleton High School in 1953 and started attending the University of Wisconsin that same year. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin in June of 1957, at which time he also received a commission in the United States Army Military Police Corp. While at the University, Barney worked several summers as a Deputy Sheriff for Outagamie County, WI and also was a member of the Delta Tau Delta Social Fraternity and Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity. He served his active duty as a confinement officer at the stockade at Fort Sheridan, Illinois. Upon return to the University, he completed his studies for a Law Degree, graduating in the spring of 1961. While in Law School, he started working as a law clerk for the Madison law firm of Schlotthauer, Jenswold, Reed and Studt, and stayed with them following his graduation until 1967. In 1967, he was one of the founding members of the law firm of Jenswold, Studt, Hanson, Clark and Kaufmann. He continued in the practice of law with that firm for 30 years. While practicing law, he was a member for many years of the Dane County Bar, the state of Wisconsin Bar Association, served a number of years on District 9-board of Professional Responsibility, the Wisconsin State Bar Association "Lawyer Hotline", the American Bar Association, and the International Association of Insurance Defense Counsel. For many years, he defended architects, engineers, medical doctors and hospitals, including Methodist Hospital and the then Madison General Hospital.
Barney was a life member of Madison Elks Lodge #410. He was also a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church where he served as an usher for over 35 years. Barney enjoyed working in the yard, cooking outside and taking care of his many automobiles over the years.
While still in Law School, he married his wife Sharon Currier Clark (Roat) in 1959. He is survived by his wife Sharon, their children; Wendy (Brian) Wells of Houston, Texas and Brad (Debbie) Clark of Naperville, Illinois, four grandchildren; Tyler and Zachery Wells, and Katherine and Layla Clark.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lyman and Alberta Clark, and his in-laws Williard and Dorothy Roat.
Friends and relatives may call at Covenant Presbyterian Church (326 S Segoe Rd, Madison WI) on Monday, April 21st from 10:00am until the time of Service at 11:00am with Rev. Charles Berthoud presiding. Private entombment will take place at Forest Hill Cemetery before the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Covenant Presbyterian Church, where it was Barney's wish to leave a dedicated item in his memory, to be determined later.
