Barbara Ann Weeks, age 77, passed away February 24, 2026 in Madison. Born on June 21, 1948 to Everett Weeks and Kathryn (Fabritz) Weeks. She was the eldest of five children. Barb attended a small-campus college, after which she relocated to Madison. It was here she met her husband, Brian Walter.

Barb began her career initially as a telephone operator, then becoming a secretary for Collins Radio. It was here that she worked on the Apollo Project, under a contract with NASA. After Collins Radio, she became a secretary in the University of Wisconsin system, where she worked for approximately ten years. Barb then secured a position as a medical secretary in the Geriatric Outreach branch of the Veterans Administration hospital. She stayed with the VA until her retirement.

Throughout her life, Barb was an ardent feminist, with strong ideals, convictions and beliefs, being active in the world around her. She participated in protest rallies, once making the cover of the Chicago Tribune while holding a sign in blaze orange gloves. She was secretary for the AFGE (American Federation of Government Employees) Local. She was also member of the USA Tug of War Association (USATOWA) in the 70’s. Throughout her life, she was a voracious reader, always carrying a book and ready to recommend one she had read, as well as ensuring the free little libraries were well-stocked wherever she saw one. Barb enjoyed birding, attending farmer’s markets, and signing up for produce food boxes from different farm groups. She had a green thumb and enjoyed indoor and outdoor gardening. She was avid contributor to Public Broadcasting Service (PBS), and Second Harvest Food Bank.

Barb is survived by her husband and life partner, Brian Walter, her sisters Paula “Polly” (Steve) Musel, and Kathy (Mike) Bessey, and her brother Tom (Cheryl) Morrison-Weeks, many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members and many dear friends.

She is preceded in death by parents, Everett and Kathryn Weeks, and sister Judy Weeks.

A celebration of Barb’s life will be held Monday, March 9, 2026 at the Cress Center, 6021 University Ave, Madison WI 53705. Visitation will begin at 10:00 am followed by a service at 11:00.
