Barbara Carolyn Saturley, age 77, of DeForest, WI entered eternal life on Sunday, July 21, 2024. She was born on January 1, 1947, in Golden Pond, KY to Jesse Ray Snyder and Mary Elizabeth (Hawkins) Snyder. She married Barry Saturley on August 7, 1971, in Hopkinsville, KY.
Barbara grew up in an area of Kentucky known as Between The Rivers with her parents and seven siblings. She attended Golden Pond school through 8th grade and graduated from Trigg County High School in 1965. In the late 60s she lived in Hopkinsville, KY and worked at Moe Light. During her time there, she became friends with Barbara Lancaster. They each had brothers in the Army and made a pact to keep praying for the men. When Barbara Lancaster’s brother came home from Vietnam, she wanted him to meet the other Barbara who had been praying for him. You could say the introduction went very well. Soon after, Barbara Snyder and Barry Saturley wed. During their 50 years of marriage, they raised two children, Michael and Melissa. Barbara was a devoted wife and mother. She kept the household running smoothly, was actively involved in church, and volunteered at her children’s school. She was a whiz with her sewing machine and created everything from costumes to home décor. Barbara never left her family hungry and always had a delicious meal on the table. She also baked and decorated wonderful birthday cakes to the delight of her children. In addition, she enjoyed bowling and time with her friends. Barbara also worked as a cosmetologist at JCPenney at East Towne Mall in Madison, WI and Lakehurst Mall in Waukegan, IL. She took immense pride in helping her customers feel confident and look beautiful.
Barbara and Barry enjoyed a long retirement which included traveling, daily exercising at the health club, socializing with friends, shopping, and spending time in Florida during the winter. Her four grandchildren brought so much joy to her life as well. Barbara loved having them around for sleepovers which included playing games and spoiling them with a huge breakfast. Barbara and Barry also loved cheering for their grandkids from the sidelines of their many sporting events.
Barbara lived her life by faith. She truly was a Proverbs 31 woman. She was hard working, generous, full of strength and dignity, and honored God. She studied her Bible and lived by those words.
She is survived by her children, Michael (Debra) Saturley of Bolingbrook, IL and Melissa (Ryan) Saturley Schall of DeForest, WI. She was blessed with four grandchildren, Carmen Saturley, Andrew Schall, Tyler Saturley and Asher Schall.
Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, parents and siblings: Betty Castell, Henry Snyder, Laura Walker, Jimmy Snyder, Maxie Snyder, Cecil Snyder, and Tony Snyder.
The family would like to thank the staff at The Legacy of DeForest for their tender care of Barbara as well Agrace Hospice, especially her nurse, Kendra, and CNA Melissa.
Honoring her wishes, a private memorial service will be held. Memorial gifts can be made to Wisconsin Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center, c/o UW Foundation, US Bank Lockbox 78807, Milwaukee, WI 53278-0807 or www.adrc.wisc.edu
Barbara kept this poem in her Bible study folder:
Don’t grieve for me for now I’m free.
I’m following the path God laid for me.
I took His hand when I heard him call,
I turned my back and left it all.
I could not stay another day;
to laugh, to love, to work, to play;
tasks left undone must stay that way,
I found that peace at the close of day.
If my parting has left a void,
then fill it with remembered joy.
A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss;
Ah yes, those things, I too will miss.
Be not burdened with times of sorrow,
I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow.
My life’s been full, I’ve savored much:
good friends, good times, a loved one’s touch.
Perhaps my times seemed all to brief,
don’t lengthen it now with undue grief.
Lift up your heart and share with me.
God wanted me now, he set me free.
