Barbara Cumming

Madison
Barbara O. Cumming, age 93, passed away on Friday, February 19, 2016 at Oakwood Village West. She was born on January 7, 1923 to Orville and Lola (Wilson) Owen in Clinton, IA.

Barbara graduated from Clinton High School Class of 1941, and from Clinton Business College in 1943. She was a private secretary for Climax Engineering for 3 years.

Barbara met her future husband, John "Jack" Cumming, corporal in the 91st General Hospital
Unit, United States Army, British citizen, native son of Scotland, at a USO in Clinton while he
was stationed at Schick Army Hospital for training before being shipped to the European Theater.

She and Jack were united in marriage on April 10, 1946 in Brooklyn, New York. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, Westminster Presbyterian Church, and a Past Queen of Antioch Temple #113, Daughters of the Nile, Madison WI.

She enjoyed golf, knitting, crochet, and was an excellent seamstress to the point that she made
her daughter's wedding dress. When Jack founded The Pipes and Drums of Zor Shrine Temple,
she threw her full support behind his project, including sewing a regimental banner for the band
to carry on parades. In her later years she also enjoyed painting with oils, and created a number of lovely canvases, which were framed.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved husband.

Barbara is survived by her daughter, Nancy (John) Randall of Stoughton; and son, David (Debra) Cumming of Wrightstown; grandsons, Douglas (Kari), Robert (Jamie), and James (Abi) Randall; and granddaughter, Jessica Cumming.

A funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 12, 2016 at CRESS FUNERAL
HOME, 3610 Speedway Road, Madison. A visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. until the time of service. A Daughters of the Nile service will be held at 3:00 p.m. before the traditional service.
