Edgerton/Madison/Waunakee - Audrey Mae Tegtmeyer Nee Hippe age 82, passed away on Tuesday, April 23, 2013 at Waunakee Manor. She was born in Edgerton, Wisconsin on September 3, 1930, the daughter of Ben and Jennie (Daniels) Hippe. She graduated from Edgerton High School, attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison and graduated from the Deaconess Hospital School of Nursing in Milwaukee in 1953. Audrey worked as an RN at Winnebago State Hospital and then the University Hospital in Madison. She served with the Wisconsin National Guard. She resigned from nursing in 1961 after marrying Gamber F. Tegtmeyer, MD and devoted the next 30 years to raising her 3 sons. She found time to serve on the membership committee of the Dane County Medical Auxiliary and also served a term as treasurer of The American Academy of Neurology Auxiliary. She and her husband traveled extensively, especially enjoying trips with Elderhostel.
Audrey is survived by her husband, Gamber; sons, David (Jess) of Steamboat Springs, CO, Kenneth (Danna) of Cincinnati, OH and Thomas of Kirksville, MO; grandchildren, Ben, Sam, Isabelle, Maggie, Charlotte and Daniel; a brother Ben and a sister, Marlys.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Gladys and brothers, Rollie and Ken.
A memorial service will be held at WINN-CRESS FUNERAL HOME, 5785 Hwy Q., Waunakee, on Monday, April 29, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
Memorials may be made to the Madison Symphony Orchestra, American Players Theater or Christ Presbyterian Church.
The family is grateful for the wonderful care given the past 4 years by the staff at Waunakee Manor, and the help and support rendered by St. Jude Hospice Care.
