MADISON- Audrey Marie Meurer, age 89, passed away on March 22nd, 2016 at her home.
Audrey was born on May 28th, 1926 in Milwaukee, Wis to Edward and Eleanor (Schirmbrand) Cauley. She is survived by her husband Fred; her three children; Kathy (Tom) Eimermann of Stillwater, MN.; Tom Meurer of Cushing, WI.; and Todd (Holly Dowling) Meurer of Verona, WI.; five grandchildren: Tim, Jill, Brent, Cauley, and Cullen; and seven great-grandchildren: Wade, Malorie, Mitchell, Jayne, Nolan, Ashley, and Avery. Audrey is also survived by her sister, Carol Doyle of Baraboo, WI.
Audrey married Fred Meurer on June 17th, 1944 in San Marcus, Texas while he was serving in the Army Air Corp, and lived in California while he was stationed there during WWII. After the war, they returned to Wisconsin where they lived in Baraboo, Milwaukee, Elm Grove, Three Lakes, and Madison.
After the youngest of their three children started school, Audrey went to work for the JC Penney Company in their district office where she rose to the position of executive secretary for the district manager. In 1989 she retired from Penney's and she and Fred moved to Three Lakes where they built a home on Planting Ground Lake. There, she was actively involved in the Three Lakes Women's Club and the Oneida County Area Agency on Aging. In 1999, they moved to Madison to be closer to their family.
Through the years, Audrey was an outstanding party hostess and fabulous cook. She was always stylishly dressed and enjoyed painting with water colors. When Fred began his battle with Alzheimer's, she became his dedicated primary caregiver.
A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, April 23rd, 2016 at 1 pm at Coventry Village, 7707 N. Brookline Dr. Madison, WI 53719.
