Asher Steven Ray, 13, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, in Fitchburg, WI. He was born on May 22, 2012, in Madison, WI to Virginia Campbell and Nathaniel Ray. Asher was an active, fun-loving kid who cared deeply about his family and friends. He had an unmatched sense of humor and a glow that would light up the darkest of rooms.
Asher really enjoyed going to school and being with classmates and teachers as an 8th grader at Cherokee Heights Middle School. Bringing laughter to the classroom was his main goal and he was successful with that at all costs. Outside of school, he enjoyed fishing, throwing the football around, shooting hoops, being with family, but most of all hanging with his buddies and creating fond memories that would last forever. While at home, he was always a joy to be around, maintained a positive attitude as a teenager, and carried that sense of humor everywhere he went. From going on long road trips to see family, being at home, or a few nights in the Dell's from time to time, Asher was truly admired for everything he was by his parents and siblings. He really embraced his role as a brother, even in challenging times, and the memories made will always be cherished.
Asher is preceded in death by his Grandpa Jim Campbell, and survived by his parents Virginia Campbell and Nathaniel Ray, step-father Patrick Conway, brothers Lucas Conway and AJ White Ray, sisters Olivia Conway, Charlotte Conway, and Riley Ray, grandparents Beverly Campbell (who always helped Asher at the drop of a hat and loved him so dearly) and Scott Ray, step-grandparents Shelley Udell and Brian Conway, and all of his many Aunt's and Uncle's that loved and adored him as much as he loved them, you know who you are. He also loved and cared for his pets, Logan (woof), Starsky and Cookie (meow), and Darwin (whiz-whirrrr).
We welcome all family and friends to Cress Funeral Home, 3610 Speedway Road, to say goodbye to Asher on Saturday, May 9th. Visitation starts at 12:30 p.m., followed by a service at 3 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, prayers and cards are welcome.
Asher made an everlasting impression on everyone he knew and may the time we all had with him remind us of the importance of laughter in our lives and its ability to distract and heal.
