Arvid Iverson, 87, died Monday May 14, 2012 at his home, out side of Whitewater WI.
He was born a few miles from Melvina on July 10,1924 to Clara (Berger) Iverson and Alfred Engman Iverson. Until he was 14 he lived on a farm on Pumpkin Ridge (about half way between Chaseburg and Coon Valley). The family spoke Norwegian at home so he became bilingual. He moved to Cashton for high school. His parents operated the Gambles store, in Cashton for many years. He was salutatorian of his high school class(1943).
After High School he served as an Electronics Technician in the U.S Navy during the second half of WWII. After the war, he graduated with honors from University of WI, Madison.. During college he joined ROTC and was commissioned as a second Lieutenant in 1951. He served as a Platoon leader in Korea.
Shortly after his Korean service he met Alice Kelly, a professor at UW Madison, and married her in Madison, August 1953. After several years she resigned to be a full time mother for two daughters, Ingrid and Astrid.
Arvid worked briefly at a bank in Janesville, then received his MBA from UW Madison in 1956 and worked in state government and private industry as a systems analyst. He finished his career working as a data processing instruction at Fox Valley technical institute and as a lecturer in Information Systems Management at UW-Whitewater. He retired from the Army Reserve with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.
Alice, his loyal friend, companion and wife for almost 50 years died in 2003. He is survived by daughters, Ingrid Iverson (La Crosse), Astrid Pfeifer (Whitewater), and two grandsons, Mirko and Ulric.
