DeForest - Arthur David Sheldon, age 71, passed away quietly in his sleep on Friday, June 17, 2016 at Agrace Hospice Care in Fitchburg. Art was born on November 8, 1944 in Appleton, and was the son of George and Dorothy (Oliver) Sheldon.
Art joined the Air Force and fought in Vietnam before returning home to marry his love, Nancy (Luchterhand), on January 11, 1968 in Appleton. Art then joined the Wisconsin State Patrol where he served and protected until his retirement in 1997. Art volunteered his time at St. Mary's rehab unit and most recently at the DeForest Community Center. An avid fisherman since his childhood, Art enjoyed fishing the day away on his boat, as well as braving the frigid temps to ice fish on Lake Winnebago. Some of his other favorite hobbies included cheering on the Packers, watching his grandchildren compete in sports, and visiting casinos (with his wife) in Las Vegas and in neighboring states. Art will be remembered for his randy sense of humor, adventurous personality, and infectious laugh.
Art is survived by his children: daughters, Melanie (Lee) Peters of Windsor and Margaret Sheldon of Madison, and son, Adam Sheldon of Richland Center; his grandchildren, granddaughter, Logan Peters, and grandson, Boone Peters; as well as his other "grandbabies," pooches, Cassius and Betty Lou; his sister, Patricia (Ken) Rickert of Milwaukee; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and good friends.
Art was preceded in death by his wife, parents, brother, sister, and sister-in-law.
