Arthur Palmer

MADISON - Arthur Howard Palmer, age 94, resident of Madison's westside for over 40 years, passed away Wednesday, January 15, 2014 at St. Mary's Care Center. Arthur was born January 2nd, 1920 in Greenfield Township, Wisconsin to Howard and M. Pearl (nee Ashton) Palmer. It was there, on the farm, that Art developed his love of gardening, flowers, and cultivating the land.
Arthur married Mary M. Schulze on May 8, 1943 in Reedsburg, Wisconsin. They were married for 63 years, until her passing in 2006. During WW II Arthur was a Technical Sergeant in the U.S. Army, being discharged in 1946. He was a graduate of the University of Wisconsin Madison. For over 30 years he was director of Nutritional Studies at Vita Plus Corp. Arthur was in the Feed Industry for over 40 years, retiring in 1985. He was a member of several animal nutrition groups and served as board chairman for one of them.
In his free time Art enjoyed volunteering his time at The Olbrich Gardens, the Red Cross, Segoe Gardens Assisted Living, and at Mr. Olive Lutheran Church where he donated his time as an usher, elder, as well as computer technician installing a computer system in the church that is still used today. He especially enjoyed raising African Violets.
Mr. Palmer is survived by his children, Pamela M. Palmer, of Plymouth, Wisconsin, and Philip (Kathryn) Palmer, Irving, TX; 2 grandchildren, Suzi (Michael) Rogers, and Christine (Alex) Walther; as well as one great granddaughter, Elizabeth Rogers. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Orville and Horace.
Funeral Service will be Saturday, January 18, 2014 at 11 am at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church. Pastor Jason Zobel will preside. A visitation will be held from 9:30am until time of service. Interment will be at Forest Hill Cemetery. Memorial contributions to Mt. Olive Lutheran Church, and Olbrich Gardens would be appreciated.
