Obituary

Arthur Jay Bregman, 80, of Miami, Florida, passed away peacefully in Madison, Wisconsin, on September 29, 2026, surrounded by his loving wife, Cathy, and son, Adam.

Born September 6, 1946, in Brooklyn, New York, Arthur devoted his professional life to psychiatry, specializing in child and adolescent psychiatry. Drawn to the sea from an early age, he moved to Miami after graduating from New York Medical College in 1974 to complete his psychiatric residency at Jackson Memorial Hospital. Throughout his life, he always had a boat and dreamed of circumnavigating the world.

After marrying Cathy, his wife of 44 years, in 1982, and welcoming their son, Adam, in 1986, Arthur found a way to balance his love of adventure with his devotion to family. Though a voyage around the world remained a dream, he made countless memories sailing the waters of the Florida Keys and the Bahamas. His adventurous spirit was evident early on: when Adam was just six weeks old, the family embarked on a six-week voyage through the Bahamas, introducing their newest crew member to life on the water!

A devoted Miami sports fan, Arthur held season tickets to both the Miami Heat and Miami Dolphins for many years. He especially enjoyed fishing, boating, and golfing, as well as spending time with friends at Coral Reef Yacht Club.

Arthur will be remembered as a kind, funny, and vibrant man who embraced life and loved deeply. He had the gift of gab and an extraordinary ability to make friends with just about anyone, regardless of race, religion, skin color, or nationality. Warm, generous, and thoughtful, he was always considerate of others and often put their needs before his own. His humor, welcoming spirit, and genuine care for those around him left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him.

Arthur is survived by his beloved wife, Cathy Bregman; their son, Adam Bregman; his brother, Harold Bregman; and his sister, Cheryl Rosenberg. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all whose lives he touched.

In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations in Arthur’s memory to Thriving Mind South Florida.
