HOT SPRINGS VILLAGE - Arlie Hickox, age 95, died on August 15th, 2013. He was born on June 26, 1918 in rural Clark County of parents Edward and Ora Mae Hickox. The family moved to Stanley around 1928 where he graduated from high school in 1936. During and after his school years he served with the Headquarters Troop 53rd US Cavalry Mounted Brigade. In 1940 he joined the Navy for a period of six years which included all of WW2. He sailed in the North and South Atlantic, the North Pacific Aleutian Islands, and then island hoping invasions of the South Pacific including the invasions of Luzon and Leyte in the Philippines. After which his ship returned to the United States for an overhaul. After being at seas duty for four years, he was transferred to shore duty for the remaining months of his enlistment. After discharge he enlisted in the Navy Reserve, serving in Madison and La Crosse as a Recruiting Officer until his retirement in 1978, having totaled 33 years of military service. He was a life member of the VFW Post in Middleton. He married Geraldine Kreckow in La Crosse on 04/21/45 and they had 3 children; Jane, Michael, and Thomas. He worked at the Gambles Corporation for 15 years as a; salesman, department head, assistant manager, and store manager. He ended his employment with Gambles as an inventory auditor. The family moved from La Crosse to Madison in 1963 where he worked for the State of Wisconsin as a purchasing agent for the University Hospital and then transferred to purchasing agent for State Universities. He retired on 05/30/80. He is survived by his son Thomas of Hot Springs Village, AR, his daughter in law, Grace, and grand children Nikita, Sofie, and Jacob, four nieces, and three nephews. The family will receive relatives and friends at Cress Funeral Home, 6201 University Avenue, Madison on Friday, August 23, from 4 to 6 pm. Prayers will be said at the funeral home Saturday, August 24th, at 10 am, leaving in procession for Resurrection Cemetery, 2705 Regent St., Madison for interment with full Military Rites.
