McFarland - Arlene Ann Custer, age 72, passed away in the company of her family on Wednesday, April 15, 2015. She was born on March 25, 1943 in Marathon, Wisconsin the daughter of Felix and Anna (Wenzel) Blume. On June 24, 1967 she married the love of her life Craig Custer, who preceded her in death on October 17, 1983.
After high school, Arlene moved to Madison and worked at Rennebohm's Drug Store. She later started her career at the University of Wisconsin Madison - Registrar's Office until her retirement in 2011. In her 43 years at U.W. Madison she worked with countless faculty, staff, and students. She especially enjoyed working with her student employees. She was an enthusiastic fan of Badger sports, particularly basketball and football.
Arlene's number one priority was taking care of her family. Through the life challenges of losing her husband in 1983 and a tornado that took her home in the spring of 1992, she remained strong in guiding and raising her family. Her grandchildren were the light of her life providing endless hours of love and laughter.
Arlene is survived by her children; Kimberly (Brian) Forsmo, Timothy (Susan) Custer, five grandchildren; Amelia, Spencer, Caroline Forsmo and Clayton, Nolen Custer. She is also survived by her brother; Ronald (Jean) Blume of Wausau.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, April 20, 2015 at Christ the King Catholic Church, 5306 Main St, McFarland, with Father Stephen Smith presiding. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services on Monday. Friends and family are invited to a luncheon immediately following the mass. She will be laid to rest next to her husband at Prairie Mound Cemetery in Oregon, Monday afternoon.
