Arland Turben, age 84 of Stoughton, passed away on Monday, September 27, 2010 at HospiceCare in Fitchburg. Â He was born on November 7, 1925 to Glen & Benetta (Mikkelson) Turben. Â Arland married Shirley Schenck on October 14, 1961. Â She passed away in 1999. Â Arland was raised on a farm in Crawford County, and attended a one room country grade school. Â He was baptized and confirmed at the South Kickapoo Church in Soldiers Grove. Â Arland drove semi truck for many years, traveling to many states. Â Later, he drove trucks for Budweiser in Madison, making the trip from Madison to St. Louis a couple of times each week. Â After retiring from trucking, he drove a school bus for the Stoughton School District. Â Arland and Shirley loved to travel, going to many states. Â They spent some of their winter months in Las Vegas with Shirley's sister Helen. Â Arland loved to play cards and bingo. Â He also liked NASCAR races. Arland is survived by his sisters, Lila Applebee of Janesville and Betty Dean of Rolla, Missouri; a sister-in-law, Irene Turben of Soldiers Grove; a special nephew, Raymond (Sheryl) Anderson; Shirley's sisters; and many nieces and nephews. Â Arland was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; 2 brothers, Kenneth and Norman; 2 sisters, Nellie and Lydia; and 2 brothers-in-law, P. Wayne Applebee and Thomas Dean. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 2, 2010 at noon at the Olson-Holzhuter-Cress Funeral Home in Stoughton, with the Rev. Paula Geister-Jones officiating. Â Burial at Lutheran Cemetery South, and lunch at the Stoughton VFW will follow the services. Â The family will greet friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 10:00 am until the time of service.
