"Argy" Schreiber

"Argy" Rose M. Schreiber, age 86, passed away Monday, July 9, 2012 in Sun Prairie at the Willows Nursing Home in the loving arms of her daughter Janice and son Robert.
She was born November 8, 1925 to William and Marie (McCambridge) Johnston in Chicago IL. Argy met Elmer Schreiber in Ft. Atkinson, WI and they were married July 18, 1954.

Argy lived a very full, adventuresome, loving and giving life. In 1944, Rose Margy Johnston was certified as an airman (woman) by the Civil Aeronautics Administration. At 19 years old she was a licensed pilot!

Argy attended Arlington Heights Township High School in IL and graduated from Northern Illinois State Teachers College with a Bachelor of Science in Education in 1950. She started her first grade teaching career in Costa Rica. She continued to teach and spent the greater years of her career at Prospect Elementary School in Lake Mills, WI until her retirement. Argy then became actively involved in politics and served on the Jefferson County Board. Argy served on library boards, was an ESL teacher, volunteered for the Waterloo Community Food Pantry and continued to give throughout her life.

She relished her time spent with family and friends and had many seasonal gatherings to celebrate birthdays, holidays, support new friendships and celebrate around our Grandmother's dining room table.

Argy's artistic nature was lovingly displayed with her table arrangements of china, center pieces, flowers and silver. She enjoyed baking, reading, knitting, sewing, crafting and creating gifts to give to her loved ones.

Argy traveled frequently with her husband, brothers and sister. Trips included frequent ones in winter months to various parts of Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Alabama, Hilton Head in South Carolina, the Poconos in PA, , driving the Natchez Trace plus Spain and Portugal. Argy and Elmer also traveled to Germany, England and Costa Rica.

Argy was a beautiful person and wonderful friend to many. As one friend in the nursing home said, "Argy is a beautiful woman who always accepted, loved and included me." Another friend stated, " Argy made my town so beautiful for me. She was so welcoming and accepting."

Her best friend Marcia loved Argy's adventuresome, fearless spirit. "Arg isn't afraid to take risks. She always had an idea of a place to go and explore." They had many joyous excursions together including an overnight in a swamp on Garden Island, a Lake Michigan wilderness island.

She is survived by her children; Janice (Greg) Poznik, Charles (Rhonda), Robert, and Glen, her grandchildren; Brienne, Shaya, Ryan, Kinnon, Joseph and Tamaya, great grandchildren; Kyen and Keya Schreiber, brothers Arthur (Doris) Johnston, Jack (Pat) Johnston and William (Evelyn) Johnston, sister Charlotte (Dan) Farris, and several nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband, parents and sister Mary Mango.

A Celebration of her life will be held Sunday, July 29 at 3pm at Sun Prairie United Methodist Church in Sun Prairie with visitation starting at 1:00 pm. A full obituary will appear in the Wednesday, July 25th edition.
