Stoughton- Anna R. Wersland, age 94, passed away on Monday, March 5, 2012 at Nazareth Health and Rehab in Stoughton. She was born in Avoca, WI on October 24, 1917, a daughter of Leo and Anna (Gilbertson) Bates. Anna was united in marriage to George Wersland on April 17, 1937. Together they farmed until 1962. Anna also worked as a cook for Stoughton High School, and was a wonderful caregiver to many. She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Stoughton, and a member of a Ladies circle there. She volunteered at the Stoughton Senior Center, and enjoyed quilting, sewing, and playing cards. She was a great housekeeper and enjoyed cleaning her home every day. Anna was a beautiful person, and a good neighbor. She loved her family, camping with her grandchildren and attending family functions. She was a wonderful cook and baker, known for her doughnuts. She was always baking for the children and always had a pot of coffee on. She is survived by three children, Diane Buss, David (Cheryl) and Dennis (Louann); 5 grandchildren, Cindy (Bob) Maddox, Tammi (Chuck) Cassis, Jennifer Wersland, Suzanne (James) Gosenheimer, and Michelle (Jamie) Hahn; 6 great grandchildren, Tarik, Mekdes, Kaitlyn, Meghan, Madison and Nathan; as well as nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and siblings, Grace, Myrtle, Edward, Edna, Nora, Clyde, Lester and Leo. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, March 17, 2012 at Christ Lutheran Church, 700 County Hwy B., with the Rev. Paula Geister-Jones officiating. Burial will follow at Lutheran Cemetery South. The family will greet friends at church on Saturday, March 17th from 1:00pm until the time of service at 2:00pm. Special thanks to the staff at Nazareth Health and Rehab for all the years of dedicated and loving care. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Christ Lutheran Church.
