Obituary

Andrew R. Dick died June 27th in Madison Wisconsin. Born November 19, 1951, Andrew was the second oldest of Adrian and Jeanne Dick’s five children. He remembered his childhood as warm, homey, fun and safe. He was born in Oshkosh WI, and grew up as the family moved from Memphis TN to Hendersonville NC to Glen Ellyn IL, to Centerville OH, landing in Neenah WI. In each new city, he jumped into swimming, sailing, and scouting. After graduating from Neenah High School, Andrew attended and graduated from UW (Madison). He received his law degree from American University in Washington, D.C.

In 1986 Andrew married Jeanne Vergeront in Madison. They moved to Minneapolis in 1987 where Andrew worked as a mediator/arbitrator on cases in family law, real estate, agriculture, and securities. He served as a court-appointed guardian ad litem representing children’s interests in family law cases.

Andrew loved reading, learning, talking and debating with friends. Affectionately dubbed the “designated reader” by his family, Andrew’s curiosity drew him to wide ranging topics including physics, the mythopoetic imagination, and cooking. He was drawn to the ideas and community that grew up around the Great Mother Conference and the poetry of Robert Bly, forming many decades-long friendships.

Over the years, Andrew and Jeanne travelled around the US and Europe visiting friends and family. They loved exploring small towns in Wisconsin and Minnesota. Jeanne and Andrew returned to Madison in 2024 to be closer to family

Andrew was preceded in death by his father and mother and his sister Sarah L. Dick. He is survived by his wife, Jeanne Vergeront; sister Mary Sullivan (Joe Sullivan); Adrienne Montgomery (John Montgomery); and brother Tom Dick (Emily Dick); nieces and nephews,

Friends and family will gather to remember Andrew Sunday August 30 4-8 PM at Marshall Park, (2101 Allen Blvd), in Madison.
