Alsie Thorson

June 1, 1934 — April 11, 2015

Madison- Alsie Alice Thorson (Dulaney), 80, of Madison, WI beloved mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother and caring friend to all passed away peacefully at Agrace Hospice on Saturday, April 11, 2015.

Alsie was born on June 1, 1934 in Fulton Mississippi, to Jettie and Woodrow Dulaney, and enjoyed many adventures with her sister (Martha Ann), cousins, and friends by her side. She was quick-witted, sassy and as stubborn as they come.

Her friendly smile greeted customers at Macy's Hilldale (originally Gimbels) and most recently at the West Towne Boston Store fragrance counter until December 2014. Her kind and gentle personality shone through to her family and friends, including her customers.

Alsie was the family matriarch. She was devoted to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Always young at heart, her grandkids fondly called her "G-money" and she was up for anything, whether it be rapping, Wii dance competitions, or goofy family photos. She loved and joined in the ridiculous antics of her fun-loving and loud family.

One way she expressed her love for her family was by feeding them delicious meals. She was a talented cook who could make anything from "scratch." Her "southern" cooking (cornbread cooked in her cast iron skillet, black-eyed peas, candied sweet potatoes, buttermilk biscuits, and homemade ice cream) was the foundation for all family gatherings.

She was a Christian in every sense of the word. She was a kind and compassionate friend, who accepted all people without judgment. If you needed a helping hand, you could be sure that Alsie would extend hers. She was known for inviting co-workers with no holiday plans to family gatherings. She was a mother to everyone, always looking out for others, and adored by all who she took under her wing.

Alsie is survived by her four children, Alice Thorson, Bill (Sandy) Thorson, Laura Schurman-Thorson and Liz (Mike) Pekol; seven grandchildren Lacie, Melissa, Billy, Daniel, Anna, Jade and Kennedy, and two great-grandsons, Nathan and Connor. She is also survived by her sister, Martha (Buck) Beasley of Fulton, Mississippi, her nephews Rick (Janet) Beasley, Ray (Pam) Beasley, their children and many other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her son Christopher Thorson who was born prematurely, and her parents, Woodrow and Jettie Dulaney.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, April 15, 2015 at MIDVALE COMMUNITY LUTHERAN CHURCH, 4329 Tokay Boulevard., Madison, at 11:00am. A visitation will be held at 9am until the time of service. A light lunch will be provided after the service.
