Alphonse Joseph DiMaggio died peacefully at his home surrounded by his children on September 15, 2017 in Madison Wisconsin at the age of 95.
Al is survived by his children: Rosemary (Skip) Hanson, Ann "Penny" (Jeff) Wendt, Therese "Terry" (Ken) Risley, Michael (Candy) DiMaggio, John (Vicky) DiMaggio, and Catherine (Jim) Hellenbrand; brother Sam (Bev) DiMaggio; sister Jenny (Pete) Castagna; and many nieces and nephews. Al was blessed with 15 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren that he loved very much. He is preceded in death by his wife Joyce C. DiMaggio; grandson Joseph "Joey" Wendt; father and mother Stephen and Rosalie DiMaggio; 3 brothers and 3 sisters, and other extended family.
Al was born on January 6, 1922 in Madison Wisconsin. He graduated from Central High School in Madison then enlisted in the Marines in 1942 where he was a Sargent. He met Joyce Carmen in the US Marine Corp. They married in 1946 and welcomed six children to their family. Al loved working in the medical field at Badger Prairie Health Center as a CNA. He retired from Badger Prairie at the age of 79. Al was very passionate about his religion, the United States Marine Corps, the Greenbush neighborhood and his heritage. His children remember him being loving and passionate about his family.
A very special thanks to Terry and Cathy and all the brothers and sisters for their excellent care at the end of their dad's life. A special thank you to neighbor J.P. Fedelie for his care and compassion. Thank you to Home Health United Hospice, St. Mary's Care Center and Sister Georgeann.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, September 21, 2017 at Holy Redeemer Church 128 W. Johnson St, Madison with Monsignor Kevin Holmes officiating. A luncheon will follow. Family will greet friends from 9 a.m. until the time of Mass. Burial with Military Honors will be in Highland Memory Gardens, Cottage Grove.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Home Health United Hospice.
