Sun Prairie- Alma J.(Haarklau) Vale, age 88, passed away on Sunday, September 22, 2013 at Agrace.
She was born on July 22, 1925 in Dane County, Wisconsin, the daughter of John and Anna (Lunde) Haarklau. She married Leslie Vale on August 30, 1947 in De Forest, WI. Alma attended school in Leeds, Wisconsin. She worked for Rayovac, Sun Prairie Canning Company and the Sun Prairie School District, where she was the head cook at Northside Elementary School. Alma was actively involved and a charter member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church. She enjoyed her Norwegian Heritage and was a wonderful baker of Norwegian goodies. Alma also enjoyed sewing for her grandchildren, and she especially liked traveling and dancing.
Alma is survived by her loving husband of 66 years, Leslie; daughters Alice(Ken Koch)Lenihan, Jean (Charles Ballard)Boyle and Carol Walton; grandchildren Steven (Arielle) Lenihan, Brandy (Christofer) Schroeder and Tyler and Valerie Walton; great-grandchildren Micco Schroeder and Addison Lenihan; sister Joan Kojo; brother Roger ( Ellen) Haarklau. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews.
Alma was preceded in death by her son, Russell Vale; her brothers Howard, Oliver, Jerome and Arthur and her sisters Irene and Ruby.
Funeral services will be held at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, 550 Lincoln Drive, Sun Prairie on Thursday, September 26, 2013 at 11:00am with Rev. Dr. David J. Berggren officiating. Burial will follow at Sun Prairie Memory Gardens. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 25, 2013 from 4:00pm until 7:00pm at Cress Funeral Home, 1310 Emerald Terrace, Sun Prairie, and also a visitation will be held from 10:00am until the time of service on Thursday at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Alma to Our Savior's Lutheran Church and American Diabetes Association.
