Deerfield -- Alma Freda Mikkelson, age 90 of Deerfield, passed away at St. Mary's Health Care in Madison on Sunday, August 17, 2008. She was born in Waukon, Iowa on February 26, 1918, a daughter of Fred and Annie (Schneider) Kehr. She was united in marriage to Morris Mikkelson in Iowa on October 4, 1941. Alma kept track of the weather and crops on her calendars for years and years. She enjoyed gardening and flowers and was always cooking and baking for her family. She enjoyed dancing and did beautiful needlework. Alma loved her family very much. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grand children and great grandchildren. The last three years of Alma's life were a wonderful time for her at St. Mary's Health Care, where she enjoyed the activities, and the garden, and was made to feel special, loved, and just like family' by the wonderful staff and residents there. Alma is survived by her children, Art (Alyce) Mikkelson of Deerfield, Karen (Jerry) Cook of Madison, and Kathy (Brian) Graedel of Middleton; seven grandchildren, Alan (Susan), Andy and Aaron Mikkelson, Jeff (Joyce Helmin), and Stacy Cook, and Jason (Garnette) and Darren (Kathy) Graedel; eight great grandchildren (and one on the way); two sisters in law, Gladys Maly and Hazel Mikkelson; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; grandson Aric; and two sisters. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 20, 2008 at 11:00 am at St. Paul's Liberty Lutheran Church, 3494 Oak Park Rd. in Deerfield, with the Rev. Dan Anderson officiating. Burial will follow at the Hauge Cemetery in Deerfield. The family will greet friends on Tuesday, August 19^th from 5-7pm at the Olson-Holzhuter-Cress Funeral Home in Deerfield, and again at church on Wednesday from 10am until the time of service.
