Alma Grant

October 27, 1924 — April 2, 2015

MADISON - Alma (nee ALBERT) Grant, passed away on April 2, 2015 at the age of 90 at Agrace Hospice. She was born in Verdon, Richardson County, Nebraska on October 27, 1924, the daughter of Percy D. and Sarah (Haith) Albert. In 1929, the family moved to the Albert family homestead near Baraboo, WI. Alma graduated from Baraboo High School in 1942. She worked at the Hill, Miller & Hill law firm, and also for the County Veteran's Service Office in Baraboo. In 1946, she moved to Madison and accepted employment with the State Attorney General's Office (now the Justice Department), until her marriage on July 8, 1950, to Wayne D. Grant of Madison. She then became a stay-at-home mom to their 3 children. She later returned to the Justice Department as a legal secretary, and retired in 1991 after 25 years with the State.

Alma was active in two bowling leagues, attaining several 600 scores, enjoyed knitting, crocheting, counted cross-stitch and playing cards with friends. She made intricate cross-stitch Angel heirlooms for each of her daughters, daughter-in-law and granddaughter, as well as many other treasured items. She joined her husband on the ski slopes in her latter 40's traveling to several sites in the western states, and also to Europe on three occasions. She enjoyed accompanying her husband, an accomplished saxophone and clarinet player, to his dance jobs with various professional and Zor Shrine bands. She even resumed playing the saxophone for a while. Alma was a member of the Daughters of the Nile, and she and her husband spent much time socializing at the Elks 410 Lodge, where he is a life member.

Surviving Alma are her husband Wayne of Middleton, WI, her children, Carol (Dale) Webster of Astoria, OR, Janice Grant of Cross Plains, WI and Alan (Vicki) Grant of Gilbert, AZ, their daughter Tiffany (Will) Larson of Gilbert, AZ and great-granddaughter Kennedy Larson of Gilbert, AZ. Preceding her in death were her parents, Percy and Sarah Albert, her three brothers, William Clifford, Arnold and Melvin, and in-laws Clenton Avery (C.A.) and Edna Grant.

Alma will be greatly missed by her family and many friends. A memorial service is being planned for later this summer. Memorials may be made to the Shriners' Hospital for Children, c/o ZOR Temple, 575 ZOR Shrine Place, Madison, WI 53719, Attic Angels, Agrace Hospice Care or Breast Cancer research. Alma was a long-time survivor of that disease. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at Attic Angels and Agrace Hospice Care for their care and compassion.
