Madison - Allen V. Worth, age 91, died on Wed. March 7, 2012 at his home. He was born in Germantown, WI on Aug. 13, 1920 and lived in Nekoosa until his enlistment in the Marine Corp in 1941. He served in the Pacific Theatre and was honorably discharged in Sept. 1945.
Allen married the love of his life, Kathleen Gilbert on Apr. 25, 1946 in Milwaukee and they moved to Vernonia, Oregon where he was employed as a line man. In 1950 they returned to WI, where Allen was employed by Wisconsin Power and Light, as part of his work he spent 1 year in Greenland at Tooley Air Force Base. In 1955 Allen joined the UW as an electrician. In his 30 year career he was the primary electrician for the Athletic Dept., overseeing the events at the Field House, Stadium and around campus. After retiring at the age of 62 he enjoyed time spent with family, summers at Fish Lake, gardening and watching sports.
He is survived by his daughters, Suzanne, Nancy, and Judith; Son-in-law, Jerry; grandson, Michael (Teresa); and great-grandchildren, Peyton and Taylor. Allen is preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Kathleen; daughter, Amy Jo; grandson, Shawn; parents, William and Martha; his brothers Jack, William and Charlie; and a sister, Lauretta.
Allen was a generous and kind person and liked by everyone who knew him. He supported many organizations, which memorials may be made in his name to: Parents of Murdered Children- Madison Chapter, American Cancer Society and National Diabetes Foundation.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 11, 2012 at CRESS FUNERAL HOME, 3610 Speedway Road with Rev. Eldonna Hazen. A visitation will be held at 1 p.m. until the time of service. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery.
