Allen D. Cummings Sr.

(All Damn Country Man)

August 6, 1942 – June 9, 2025

It is with a very heavy heart to announce the passing of Allen, better known to many as A.D., after his body grew tired following a heart valve replacement.

A.D. served for 23 years in the United States Navy, upon multiple Destroyers, AirCraft Carriers, and his favorite ship being a “Fast Frigate” war ship. He worked as a boiler technician, while his family was stationed primarily in Norfolk, VA. A.D excelled and moved up in rank which resulted in his transition to being a recruiter for the U.S. Navy. This allowed him and his family to move back to his home state of Wisconsin, where he continued to prove his strong leadership abilities and became the Master Chief Recruiter for the Great Lakes area.

With his career advancement, he and his wife Janice were able to purchase their first home in Sun Prairie, WI. Where they raised their two kids Allen Jr. and Angelique. Allen then proceeded to live at residence until his passing. He retired from the Navy on February 28th, 1982. A short time after his retirement, he became employed at the Wisconsin Cheeseman in Sun Prairie as a maintenance manager. This position led to him transitioning to the HVAC/Boiler tech and maintenance manager at Scott’s Candy Plant also in Sun Prairie. Eventually the company transitioned to Schutzman’s where he retained his current position. Allen retired from there at the end of 2012 but once again returned to working for a little over a year at Ho-Chunk Gaming Madison.

A.D. always had a strong love of music from a very young age and even won a medal for singing a solo in his youth. Although he enjoyed many different types of music, Classic Country music was what he resonated with and loved most. He loved to play guitar and started a one-man band and performed for wedding receptions, birthdays and anniversary gatherings. He attended jam sessions in the local area and performed at many local bar establishments. Allen then formed a five-piece country music band known as “Country Sundown” which was very successful. They played in all different areas of Wisconsin, however after the tragic death of his fiddle player the band disbanded in the 90’s. He continued to attend jam sessions and would be a host singer from time to time. Allen and a select group of fellow musicians performed for his daughter’s wedding reception in 1996. His last performance for the public was as a guest host in the mid 2000’s. A.D. and his wife Janice enjoyed spending their time gambling at casinos and spending time with family, prior to her passing in 2003.

A.D. was known and liked by everyone he would meet; he would always greet people with a friendly smile. He enjoyed having conversations with new people he met. Allen was almost always whistling, and his whistle was unique, genuinely a gift just for him.

A.D. was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Janice, his brothers William, James, Robert, Donald, John Cummings, and his sisters Agnes Stephens and Mary Palubicki.

He is survived by his son Allen Jr., his daughter Angelique Weisman, grandchildren; Amber (Joshua) Schonasky, Ashley Weisman, and Mason Weisman (Myles). His younger brother Tom (Pat) Cummings, sister’s Nancy (Jack) Kelly and Joann Rusinko. Along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

The Family of A.D. would like to thank the Doctor’s, Nurses, and staff at the VA Hospital in Madison for their friendly, kind and compassionate care. Allen always had positive things to say about the treatment he received from everyone there.
