Alice Ruland

Madison - Alice A. Ruland, age 83, passed away on Saturday, March 28, 2015 surrounded by her loving family. She was born on February 26, 1932 in Mauston, Wisconsin the daughter of Leo and Anna (Robinson) Cafferty. She was united in marriage to Bernard "Jim" Ruland on August 16, 1951 in Mauston. Alice worked at Sears for a while and then Madison Gas and Electric for 18 years. Alice was very creative throughout her life winning ribbons for dressmaking at the State Fair. She sewed Halloween costumes and wedding dresses. Alice crocheted Afghans, bookmarks and dresser scarves. Alice was an avid sports fan. She loved watching the Brewers, Packers, and Badgers along with Nascar racing. Alice enjoyed her Essex Happy Hour group, playing "pennies", and visiting various state casinos for companionship. She and her husband loved to travel in their motor home, touring almost all 50 states to visit family. They even visited Germany.

Alice is survived by her children, Celia Harris, James (Donna) Ruland, Kathy (Ken) Bailey, Mary (Steve) Hankes, Donna (Ron) Kochanowski, Rose Ruland, and Carol (Bob) Weinman; daughter-in-law, Pam Ruland; 17 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; brother, Jack (Eva) Cafferty; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and a son, AJ.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. PETER CATHOLIC CHURCH, 5001 N. Sherman Ave., Madison on Wednesday, April 1, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. with Msgr. Charles Schluter presiding. Burial will follow at Highland Memory Gardens. A visitation will be held at CRESS FUNERAL HOME, 3325 East Washington Ave. Madison on Tuesday, March 31, 2015 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 pm and at church on Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. until time of Mass.
