DeForest - The kind and gentle spirit of Alice Beatrice (Davidson) Lockman slipped away peacefully on April 22, 2014 at Agrace HospiceCare in Fitchburg, WI.
Alice was born on February 26, 1930, at the farm of her parents, Lucius and Josephine (Sampson) Davidson in DeForest, WI. She attended Maple Grove Elementary School and graduated from DeForest High School in 1948. On the evening of her high school graduation, she accepted the marriage proposal of her high school sweetheart and best friend, Francis E. Lockman. They were married on Alice's birthday in 1949.
Alice worked as a cashier at Piggy Wiggly grocery store in Sun Prairie for 25 years retiring in 1988. Alice's many loves included, first and foremost, her family, music, bowling, rolling lefse and playing cards. She directed the choir at Burke Lutheran Church for 10 years. Alice also enjoyed playing the organ "by ear" for numerous special occasions and Nursing Homes in the Madison area. Her soft voice, patience and kindness of character, prevailed throughout her life and was reflected in her love for her family. She was a magnificent wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. For those of us who knew and loved her, she graced our lives and will certainly grace those in heaven.
Alice was preceded in death by: her husband, Francis; son, Douglas; her parents, three sisters, one brother and two brother-in-laws. She is survived by her children, David (Cathy) Lockman, Richard Lockman, Darla Lockman and Daniel (Rosemary) Lockman; a daughter-in-law, Lora Lockman, numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at BURKE LUTHERAN CHURCH, 5720 Portage Road, Madison, on Tuesday, April 29, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Margo Martens officiating. Burial will follow at Burke Lutheran Cemetery. A visitation will be held at CRESS FUNERAL HOME, 1310 Emerald Terrace, Sun Prairie, on Monday, April 28, 2014 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and at the church on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m.
Mom, as we walked through the journey of life on earth, we remember how you helped us to grow with honor, truth and dignity. We remember how you helped us to choose the right path with values, morals and self-worth. You made us who we are today and we will always remember you, as no one could have touched our lives more than you.
Special thanks to Dr. Ellen Flannery, Sylvan Crossings and Agrace HospiceCare for the loving care you provided our Mom.
