Alice Kitchen

February 22, 1945 — February 25, 2013

McFarland- I know that my Redeemer lives, and that in the end he will stand upon the earth.
And after my skin has been destroyed, yet in my flesh I will see God; I myself will see him
with my own eyes--I, and not another. How my heart yearns within me! Job 19:25-27.
Alice Kay (Neal) Kitchen went home to be with her Lord after a short battle with pancreatic cancer on Monday, February 25, 2013 at Agrace Hospice Care. She was born on February 22, 1945 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa to Myron and Celia (Spawn) Neal. She met Ernie Kitchen in 1959 when she was sophomore at Dewitt Central High School. They started going steady on December 16, 1959 and Ernie proposed 5 years later to the day. The couple was married on September 5, 1965 at the Methodist Church in DeWitt, Iowa. Alice received an Associated Arts degree from Clinton Community College in 1965, then a Liberal Arts and Library Science degree in 1967 from the University of Iowa. A few moves around the Midwest and 2 babies later, they settled in Waunakee, and finally to McFarland where they currently live. Alice worked at Westport Town Hall, First Assembly of God, Felly's Flowers and First Presbyterian Church in Waunakee, where she still has a room named after her to this day. They were very involved in their local church. Alice's sweet spirit, gentle manner and obvious love for God impacted many children and teenagers' lives. Starting with a pup tent on their honeymoon and ending with many road trips in their RV, Alice and Ernie were lifelong travelers and managed to travel to all 50 states and 33 countries. Alice was a devoted mother and homemaker who adored her family and loved spending time with her grandchildren. She was an excellent pianist and delighted her church families and many friends with her musical talents. She was a light and joy to her beloved ladies Bible study group.
Alice is survived by "her best boyfriend" and husband, Ernie, treasured daughters Sheri (Scott) Bartz and Barbara (Jonathan) Ulma, adored grandchildren Daniel Koch, Matthew and Mark Bartz and Elizabeth Ulma, sister Donna (Larry) Seever, sister-in-law Janice (Milton) Kane, nephews Robert Seever, Matthew (Lisa) Seever, Brent (Jenny) Smith, and niece Tammy Smith. She was preceded in death by her parents, parents-in-law, Levi and Florence (Holst) Kitchen, numerous aunts and uncles, brother-in law Marvin Smith and nephew Bryan Smith.
Funeral services will be held at City Church, 4909 East Buckeye Road, Madison on Thursday, February 28, 2013 at 2:00. Visitation will take place from 12:30 pm until the time of the service. A meal will be served after the service. A private burial will take place at Highland Memory Gardens.
