Madison

Alexander Brandon Nordness, 40, of Madison passed away on Monday, January 12, 2026.

Alex was born on October 12, 1985 in Madison to Michael and Kathleen (Gruber) Nordness. He graduated Middleton-Cross Plains Area School District and studied at UW-Whitewater. Alex was previously employed by CDW Corporation, and was currently working at UW Health. He enjoyed the challenge of investigating difficult technical issues at his work where he was a Senior Applications Analyst, and truly loved working with his team at UW Health.

Alex volunteered at the DeForest Windsor Fire & EMS.

He loved to cook and followed many chef and cooking competitions on TV. Alex liked trying new recipes and experimenting with a variety of spices. You have to smile when you think about it--Alex was a vegetarian who participated in meat raffles just for the fun of it. His winnings went home with friends. He has mentioned if he wasn't in IT, he would be a Chef or writer.

Alex also loved to read, skateboard (before his health caught up), watch Packer games, catch up with friends, visit friends in Portland and Los Angeles, play video games (he was playing Starcraft 2 last month, and had also mentioned Minecraft), sitting outside and enjoying nice weather, relaxing and taking naps. He loved helping people. Alex was always excited to spend time with his family and treasured the holiday gatherings. He made friends everywhere he went - both people and their dogs.

For his 40th birthday he and his brother and friends went to Vegas for the weekend; All had a great time. Alex has always been so kind, so thoughtful, considerate, and respectful. His knowledge and willingness to always help his work team was a huge asset.

Alex is survived by his parents, Michael and Kathleen Nordness; brothers, Jeff Ripp, Andrew Nordness; nephew, Roberto Ripp; uncles, James Gruber, Scott (Linda Watson) Mueller; aunts, Deborah (Christopher Sneed) Gruber, Wendy (Jerry) Stoker; cousins, Scott (Jessica) Stoker and their children Zuri and London, Matt Stoker and his daughter Sophia, Adam (Brittany) Mueller, Sarah (Karl) Reynolds and their children Harper and Nash.

He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Cletus and Anita Gruber, and Robert and Bernelda Nordness; and aunt, Linda Gruber Mulhern.

A gathering in Alex’s honor will take place at a later date.

Donations in Alex's memory can be made to a Humane Society in honor of his love for dogs or St Jude. You may also choose to plant a Tree in honor of Alex, as he felt this was a wonderful concept.
