Albert Oleson

MIDDLETON - Albert J. "Al" Oleson, age 86, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 1, 2018 after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer's disease. He was born on May 20, 1931, in Lodi, the son of Elmer and Edna (Thureen) Oleson.

Albert was a 1950 graduate of Lodi High School. After graduation he attended the University of Missouri on a football scholarship. He volunteered for the Korean War serving in the Marines, and was injured in battle and received the Purple Heart. He finished his education by graduating from the University of Wisconsin - Madison. On August 28, 1954 he was united in marriage to Marion McChesney. Albert worked many years in the printing industry and finished his career at Madison Newspapers and Covance Laboratories. He was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Madison, Mendota Gridiron Club, and American Legion Post 245.

He was an avid Wisconsin Badgers fan and was a season football and basketball ticket holder for many years. Albert also liked watching the Green Bay Packers and Milwaukee Brewers. After retirement he began a hobby of woodcarving. He enjoyed traveling with Marion and spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was very proud of his Norwegian heritage.

Albert is survived by his wife of 63 years, Marion, their son Keith (Diane) Oleson of Waunakee, and daughter Lisa (John) Charles of Green Bay; grandchildren Kirk and Dayne Oleson, Kyrsten, Bridget and Christopher Charles. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Mamie, and half-brother Ray Tegner.

A celebration of Albert's life will be held on Saturday, April 7, visitation from 9:30 to 11:30 followed by a service at 11:30 at the CRESS CENTER, 6021 University Ave., Madison, WI. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Albert's name to Bethel Lutheran Church Media Ministry, or the Columbia Health Care Center Foundation. Please share your memories.
