Aiko Kawamura

Aiko Kawamura, age 97 of Stoughton, passed away Wednesday, May 1, 2013. Aiko was born on June 18, 1915 in Moneta, California the daughter of the late Rev. and Mrs. Haruye Shibata. She was married to Walter M. Kawamura on August 11, 1957 who preceded her in death on July 24, 1996. Prior to marriage, Aiko was employed by the District Attorney's Office in Los Angeles, California. After marriage, she moved to Chicago where she helped her husband operate the Southtown Gift Shop. In 1986, Aiko and Walter moved to Stoughton where they enjoyed their retirement. She was a member of the Stoughton Baptist Church and also the Evergreen Baptist Church in Los Angeles.

Aiko is survived by her daughter, Florence (Ken) Sakai; two granddaughters, Debra Sakai (John Stanco), and Amy (James) Franklin; great-grandsons Lucas, Matthew, Joshua, Bryan and Brendan; great-granddaughters, Miya and Cadence and several nephews and nieces.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband; son, Donald Kawamura; three brothers, George, Kazuo, and Keizo; and her sister, Mary Katow.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. at Stoughton Baptist Church, 125 Cty Hwy B on Friday, May 3, 2013 with Reverend Mark Weiss officiating. Family will greet friends from 10 a.m. until the time of service. A luncheon will follow at church.
