Agnes Halvorson

March 21, 1908 — September 29, 2010

Agnes Pauline Halvorson, age 102 of Stoughton, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 29, 2010 at Nazareth Health and Rehabilitation Center in Stoughton.   She was born on March 21, 1908 in Osseo, a daughter of Albert and Emma (Torpen) Ihle.   She attended Eau Claire Teachers College and graduated with a teaching certificate.   Agnes later moved to Madison where she worked as a housekeeper for various families.   She married Ervin H. Halvorson on October 28, 1939.   They were married for 57 years, until Ervin's death on December 18, 1996.   Agnes was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, The Sons of Norway, and The Weekenders Travel Club.   She also enjoyed spending time at the Stoughton Senior Center with her sisters Sally and Clara.   Agnes is survived by her son James Halvorson of Oregon; a daughter, Gail (LaVerne) Wichelt of Monroe; two very special grand daughters, Nicole (Mark Meives) Stephenson of Barneveld and Shawna (Tim) March of Evansville; 5 great grandchildren, Joshua and Emma Stephenson, Zachary Simonson, and Spencer and Riley March; and one step great grand daughter, Manami Deneen.   She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Ervin; sisters, Selma Haried and Clara Waite; and by a brother, Philip Ihle. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 2, 2010 at 3:00pm at Christ Lutheran Church in Stoughton with the Rev. Paula Geister-Jones officiating.   Burial will follow at Western Koshkonong Cemetery in Cottage Grove.   The family will greet friends at church on Saturday from 2:00pm until the time of service. Agnes was an absolutely wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.   Family was very important to her, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.   Our family is most appreciative of the excellent care and love Agnes received at Nazareth Health and Rehab.   Agnes very much enjoyed living there and attending the many social activities, especially Bingo.   A very special thank you also, to her Hospice team for their care, kindness and family support. ""Silently one by one in the infinite meadows of heaven, Blossomed the lovely stars, the forget-me-nots of the angels"" from Evangeline' by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
