Padilla, Socorro M.
Madison: Socorro M. Padilla, age 94, died at home with her daughter by her side on Thursday, June 24, 2021.
Prior to moving to Madison, she was a longtime active member of St. Luke’s Catholic Church in Gary, IN. She was a member of the Sodality of the Virgin de Guadalupe, was active for many years in helping extensively in the after Sunday Mass breakfast for the parishioners, and often volunteered when needed.
Socorro enjoyed going to plays, concerts, musicals, and the Chicago Symphony with her brothers Seville and Frank, and her best friend Mary. She also enjoyed dancing, good food/dining and was an excellent cook. Socorro was kind and generous, often providing daily meals and help to senior friends in times of need and beyond. After retirement she was a longtime housekeeper for the priests of Holy Angel’s Cathedral in Gary before moving to Madison. As the fourth eldest of 12 siblings, she was the first to be born in the United States. She and her younger brother, Hilbert, both graduated from Froebel High School in June of 1946.
Socorro is survived by her son, Raul; daughter, Marcia; son Albert; brothers, Hilbert, Ralph (Lucy), Robert (Nancy), Guadalupe, and Frank; grandchildren, Christina (Eric), Olivia, Nicholas; great grandchild, Thorfin; and many beloved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Rose and Theresa; brothers Seville, Andrew, Anthony, and Michael.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, June 30, 2021 at ST. BERNARD CATHOLC CHURCH, 2015 Parmenter St., Middleton, WI 53562, with Fr. Brian Wilk presiding. A sincere heartfelt thank you to Uncle Guadalupe (Lupe) for being a loving brother, caregiver, and friend to Socorro for the last 5 years of her life. He watched and took care of her during her slow decline with Alzheimer’s. He kept her active, safe, and sang songs to her, wrote her poetry, and most importantly made her laugh and feel loved.
The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to all of her caregivers from Visiting Angels, the nurses, social workers, and CNA’s from Agrace HospiceCare, and the many loving family and friends for the support and comfort during the last years of Socorro’s life. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to the Alzheimer’s Association, or Agrace HospiceCare, 5395 E. Cheryl Parkway, Madison, WI 53711 or agrace.org/donate.
