James P. Hellenbrand, age 77, passed away on Saturday, February 18, 2012 at home surrounded by his wife and loving family after courageously fighting Myelodysplastic Syndrome for 2 years. He was born on March 15, 1934 to John W. & Gertrude (Frederick) Hellenbrand. James was united in marriage to Florence B. He was a longtime resident of Waunakee and member of St. John's Catholic Church in Waunakee and served in the U.S. Army for 2 years after the Korean War. Jim recently reached his precious goal of being able to celebrate 55 very special years of marriage to Florence.

He & Florence started Hellenbrand Water Inc. in 1967 and through a lot of dedication and hard work built a thriving Company that is well known today. He enjoyed spending winters in Arizona and weekends at their cottage with family and friends where many good memories were made. He loved to fish & golf with his buddies & share stories over coffee in the morning,. He enjoyed a good card game, putting puzzles together & watching the Green Bay Packers, Wisconsin Badgers & Milwaukee Brewers. Jim was an usher at church and also a volunteer driver for "Meals on Wheels" until his health did not allow him to do that anymore. He was always willing to help someone and cherished his wife, children and grandchildren as family always came first.

He is survived by his wife, Florence; his seven children - Jeff (Ruth), Terry "Digger" (Jamie), Sue Hellenbrand (friend Dave), Kevin (Sue), Paul,(Julie), Jodi (Jeff) Marcouiller & Jay (Michelle); eleven grandchildren - Dana (Kevin) Young & Andrea Hellenbrand, Alex & Jenna Barbian, Russ & Amanda Von Swol, Carter Hellenbrand, Sawyer & Teagan Marcouiller and Ciboney & Seanna Hellenbrand; one great grandson - Taylen Young; four brothers - Donald (Evie), Jerome (Dorothy), Raymond (Mary Ann), twin brother John (Colleen) and two sisters - Doris (Donald) Schneider and Darlene (Richard) Miller; and in-laws - Gerald (Alice) Pulvermacher, Walter (Alice) Pulvermacher, Bernadette Pulvermacher, Marge (Harvey) Tesar, Jan (Connie Ryan), George (Barbara) Pulvermacher and Ann (Glenn) Johnston.

He was preceeded in death by his parents John & Gertrude and his mother & father-in-law Florian & Henrietta Pulvermacher, in-laws Norman & Alice Pulvermacher, John Pulvermacher, Marcus Pulvermacher, Sylvester Pulvermacher, Marilyn Pulvermacher & Beverly Hellenbrand; nephews Roger Pulvermacher, Kenneth Pulvermacher and Mark Pulvermacher and niece, Debra (Pulvermacher) Endres.

Jeff and Paul:
I am so sorry for the loss of your beloved Father. Your parents realized the American Dream by starting the business and their fearlessness provides livelihoods for many people for many years to come. You seemed like a very close-knit family and I am sure you have many wonderful memories to cherish. Regardless of the situation, we are never truly prepared for such a heart felt loss but find some relief in that your Father is longer suffering. I too just lost my Dad this past January 31st.
God bless you and your family.
With Sympathy,
Denise Nasternak, Stenner Pump Company

My wife and I will never forget when Jim and Florence stopped to pay us a social visit at our water treatment dealership here in West Union, Iowa. We worked a little bit with the Hellenbrand group at that time some 20 to 25 years ago. This visit that was just in an extension of interest and friendship, really impacted my wife and I. We really felt a friendship. As time has passed, we have become fully associated with Hellenbrand and have enjoyed working with Jim and Florence's children and associates. Jim and Florence set the tone with their leadership of the company. I was always interested in catching up with them again sometime and visiting and letting them know how pleased we are to be associated with their company and family. Our best wishes and sympathies to all of you during this time. We will be praying for you during this time.

John & Rose Boehnen on Feb 19, 2012

Even tho we have known Jim and Florence for a short time, we have many good memories of our time together in AZ. Playing cards, golfing, going out for fish on Fridays or breakfast after Sunday Mass. We feel blessed to have had Jim touch our lives. Our thoughts and prayers are with Florence and family.
