She loved to travel and since her husband was a Eureka College of Illinois classmate of President Ronald Reagan graduating together in 1932, she and Henry attended the first Inaugural Ball as guest of the Reagans and enjoyed many visits with "Dutch" and Nancy. Edna was honored with an honorary degree from the Eureka College in recognition of many years of support. In 1967 she and Henry retired and spent 26 winters in Florida, returning to Vennevoll for the summers where she continued her interests in needlepoint and hardanger. My condolences to Edna's family. She and Henry made me feel so welcome and entertained us so generously when Jane and I were students at Eau Claire and would visit them. I think I visited once with just Jane and another time with a group of friends.
I've fond memories of times with Auntie Edna and Uncle Heinie at their cottage home on Lake Ida, Minnesota...playing with toy boats in the water, fishing off the pier (not touching the worm, though), and going to the beauty parlor with Auntie Edna. Times pass quickly. She was a blessing.
Aunt Edna will be miss by all who knew her. She and Uncle Henry were always in the hearts of the Hughes family for as long as I can remember.
This was a great loss to all who knew Aunt Edna.
She will be miss along with along with Uncle Henry.
