Jami Sue Acre, 43, of Edgerton, Wisconsin, passed away on Saturday, November 11, 2017, at UW Hospital in Madison, WI. She was born on April 7, 1974, in Madison, WI, the daughter of Suzan B. Acre and James L. (Rose) Acre. Jami grew up in Madison and attended James Madison Memorial High School. She was passionate about her role as a 4 year high school cheerleader for football and ice hockey. She continued her education at UW Whitewater where she served as a Resident Hall Assistant for 4 years. After completing her undergraduate studies in 1997, she launched her career in child protective services as a social worker in Madison and Milwaukee. She later returned to school, earning her Masters Degree in social work from UW Milwaukee in 2008. She continued her work in child protective services and became passionately involved in volunteer work and activism in the LGBT movement. She enjoyed singing and in high school made the acapella group and continued participation in her churches choirs. She also was an avid Green Bay Packer fan. In late 2015 she was forced to take a break from her career due to the effects of congestive heart failure resulting from a congenital heart defect. She has been a faithful follower of Jesus Christ and a regular attendee of Christ United Methodist Church in Greendale, WI and Edgerton UMC. For the last year she has resided with her sister Mandy in Edgerton awaiting an opportunity for a heart transplant. She received her gift of a new heart on September 27, 2017. Following her transplant she suffered failure of several vital organs and peacefully answered the call of her Lord and Savior on November 11, 2017, with loving family by her side.

Survivors: mother, Sue Acre (John Lawler); father, Jim (Rose) Acre; sisters Melissa Wagner and Mandy (Nate) Albertie; grandmothers Aileen Acre and Gladys Mazerek, countless aunts, uncles, cousins and extended family.

Preceded in death by Grandmother Janet (Shaffer) Miller; grandfathers Charles Shaffer, Ralph Acre and Claude Mazerek.

Celebration of life service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, November 16, 2017 Cress Funeral Home, 3325 East Washington Avenue, Madison, Wisconsin. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services.
