Deerfield- Donald E. Boldt, age 84, passed away on Friday, July 14, 2017 at his home surrounded by loved ones. He was born in Chicago on June 11, 1933, the son of George and Edna Boldt. Don grew up in Chicago before moving to LaCrosse in the 1960's, where he enjoyed fishing and gardening. In the early 1990's Don moved to Deerfield where he worked at Borger IGA for several years. He enjoyed attending events in Deerfield, especially sports and musicals. Don loved baseball and was a lifelong Cubs fan. He loved people and enjoyed conversation, always asking how the family was doing and ending each conversation with "make sure you tell everyone I say hi." Don was a dedicated member of Deerfield Lutheran Church where he enjoyed ushering and greeting. He was active with the Deerfield Community Center where he often called BINGO, helped set tables, and made new people feel welcome. Don will be missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his nephew, Jeff (Melanie) Boldt; two nieces, Judy (John) Lange and Jenna (Tom) Oasen; several great and great-great nieces and nephews; as well as many cousins; extended relatives; and many special friends. Don was preceded in death by his parents; and brother and sister-in-law, George and Gretchen Boldt. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, July 20, 2017 at Deerfield Lutheran Church, 206 S. Main Street, Deerfield, with Rev. Larry Sexe officiating. Friends and relatives are invited to a luncheon, immediately following the services, in the church fellowship hall. Friends may greet the family from 9:30 AM until the time of services at church on Thursday. Memorials may be made in Don's name to Deerfield Lutheran Church, Deerfield Community Center, or Fishing Has No Boundaries. A special thank you to Mike and Jenni Quam for their loving care of Don. I remember talking to Don almost everyday on his walks. "Hello. How's the family?" We chatted about this and that. What a kind soul. Always ended with "Thanks for talking to me." And always, a huge smile. RIP Don. You will be missed.
