Schensky, Margaret S.

(January 28th, 1918 - June 18th, 2009)

Madison -- Margaret S. Schensky, age 91, passed away on Thursday, June 18, 2009 at Meriter Hospital. She was born, Margaret Sophie Goetzelman, on January 28, 1918 in Bloomington, Wisconsin where she grew up helping with the family business (Goetzelman General Store) and sang in the Methodist Church Choir. Margaret moved to Madison to pursue beauty school and a career in cosmetology. She married Harold Leslie Schensky, who predeceased her in 1989. Together they owned and operated Schensky's Hardware at 1835 Monroe Street in Madison for 47 years.

She is survived by one daughter, Sharron Wartinger and son-in-law, Thomas Wartinger of Atlanta, Georgia. She has one grandson, George Louis Bruckert, III of Lisle, Illinois. Together they shared a common sense of humor and fun. She talked on the phone several times a day with her older surviving sister, Marie Metry of Monona. Margaret had a great deal of respect for her nephew, Mark Metry, a pharmacist in La Crosse, and his wife Marcia. She enjoyed the company of her great niece, Hannah Metry, and her great nephew, Alex Metry, also of La Crosse. Margaret enjoyed the visits of her niece, Jane Caffrey Murrell, and Jane's husband, Mike, of Florida. She observed the growth and development of their daughter, her great niece, Amilee, via the photos of family made Christmas calendars. She is also survived by great nieces, Barbara, Carrie and Elizabeth of California.

A visitation will be held from 3:00 until 6:00 p.m. on Monday, June 22, 2009 at CRESS FUNERAL HOME, 3610 Speedway Road, Madison. Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 23, 2009 at CRESS FUNERAL HOME, 3610 Speedway Road, Madison, with a visitation from 12:30 p.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Bethel Lutheran Church Media Ministry, 312 Wisconsin Ave, Madison, WI 53703.
